Lady-Comp® Technical FAQs
You might have some questions regarding the technical side of your Lady-Comp® device. To help you work through any technical problems or uncertainties, we’ve compiled a list of our customer’s most frequently asked questions along with their corresponding answer.
Q: What is the correct way to clean the thermometer?
A: We recommend cleaning the thermometer before your first use and later at regular intervals using tepid water or sterile wipes which can be bought separately. Never use alcohol or chemical agents.
Q: Why am I getting so many red lights when I start using Lady-Comp?
A: Generally, after the first M, Lady-Comp® will give you 4 or 5 green days when it’s impossible to get pregnant. It can not anticipate ovulation on cycle 1, but it spends the cycle learning and looking for the ovulation variation in the BBT. Around day 20, Lady-Comp® will start displaying the M sign to ask for confirmation of menstruation. Pressing the plus button confirms this after taking the reading. Upon menstruation arriving, Lady-Comp® will probably give about 5 green days at the start of cycle 2. It will then go red (or maybe yellow) until it detects ovulation in cycle 2. A day or so after ovulation it will go green until menstruation. As cycles go by, the number of green days after ovulation will increase as LC refines the start time of the fertility window.Typical users get 20 to 22 green days on cycle 3.
Just a note, if you enter historical data before beginning, just enter the first day of menstruation. When menstruation arrives, mark every day with the M.
Q: How can I print out my data?
A: Simply arrange to send the device to one of our service centers who will return it with a hard and soft copy of the last 12 months of data. A fee is charged to cover return postage.
Q: I quit charging my Lady-Comp® when I became pregnant and now the battery is completely dead. Will my old data be lost?
A: Lady-Comp® has an exceptionally high quality integrated rechargeable Lithium battery that will hold a charge for several weeks, if not months, before needing to be recharged. However, if the battery does become depleted, the Lady-Comp® will not lose your personal data as all user readings are retained on a chip.
To prevent the battery from running low, we suggest recharging for a full 12 hours every 40-60 days.
Q: How can i tell if my wall transformer is working?
A: When you connect your wall transformer to Lady-Comp®, "Lo" will appear on the display if its charging. If its not charging, remove it from both the wall and the Lady-Comp® and clean the connector to the Lady-Comp®. If it still won’t charge (showing the "Lo" display) and you know the plug socket works then the transformer needs to be replaced.
Q: How long should I charge my Lady-Comp® for?
A: When you get the "BA09" signs you should charge the device for 8 hours. An 8 hour charge is sufficient for a month’s regular usage. It cannot be over charged.
Q: I’m going on holiday but my Lady-Comp® doesn’t say the battery is low. Can I charge it anyway so I don’t have to take the charger with me?
A: Yes. It’s usually best to let the battery run down but giving a premature charge occasionally isn’t a problem.
Q: Is it okay to charge my device overnight?
A: Yes. When the battery is low, an 8 hour charge is required and an overnight charge is often the most convenient method.
Remember you shouldn’t take your temperature when the Lady-Comp® is charging. If you wake up and it is on charge, you must disconnect it from the power supply BEFORE taking your temperature.
Q: What does "BA09" mean on my Lady-Comp® screen?
A: BA09 will soon change to BA08, then BA07, until it reaches BA01. These numbers represent the battery’s charge and let you know how long you have left before you have to re-charge, hence the count down. The time between BA09 to BA01 is about 6 days if you’re just taking your readings. Calling up old data and changing alarm times will slightly reduce the time, which would then require an 8 hour charge. If the battery is completely depleted, your data will remain safely stored until the battery is charged again.
Q: Why has my thermometer stopped working?
A: When winter arrives, many people report that their thermometer has stopped working. Most of the time, this is the result of the user turning on central heating. This dries the air out, which consequently dries out the user’s respiratory system, and the thermometer is unable to get a clear reading. Saliva at body temperature is needed in the mouth so drinking water wouldn't help as it would measure the water's temperature. Women’s bodies will quickly adjust to the dry air and the thermometer will once again be able to take accurate measurements.

Q: If menstruation comes after the temperature was taken in the morning, should "M" be entered the NEXT morning? Or can it be entered during the day, and if so, how?
A: Firstly, you can add the last six months worth of menstruation data BEFORE you start to use the Lady-Comp®. This speeds up the learning process of Lady-Comp® if you have it available. If not, no problem.
The odds of waking up and realizing you’re menstruating before taking your temperature is quite slim especially given that the reading should be done before even visiting the bathroom.
The instructions explain how to add the M for the previous day and I think it actually allows for an M to be added up to 3 days later.
Most women just add it in the following morning, although the correct thing to do is to go back and add it manually for greater accuracy. The impact seems minimal at first glance since menstruation could have arrived a day later but it would actually remove one day to the date when Lady-Comp® would anticipate the arrival of ovulation. For example, let’s say Lady-Comp® anticipated day 12, day 12 would then be day 11. So however large the potential fertility window that Lady-Comp® buffers for is, you would be shaving one day from the safety net, albeit a large safety net. As mentioned previously, most women don't bother but that buffer still seems large enough to cover that one day variance.
